Mettupalayam

மேட்டுப்பாளையம். its about 40km from Coimbatore...
it is situated nicely at the foot of the towering Nilgiri Hills and the starting station of the famous Ooty train "Nilgiri Passenger", the only rack and pinion meter gauge railway in Asia, and the only existing railway in India with fully operational steam engine power.

Please do not change the title to Tamil again.

    Do visit the Nilagiri Railway Museum at Mettupalayam Station. It was opened in late 2015 in the disused coal yard, and has both indoor and outdoor exhibits worth viewing. One of the paintings on the outer wall of the museum shed was based on my photograph of a view of the Kattery Park and Runneymede station!
